Assistant Professor – Mathematics or Computer Science

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Salisbury University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics or Computer Science.

Primary Job Duties: If hired in computer science, teaching introductory computer science courses as well as a broad range of upper level computer science courses. If hired in mathematics, teaching introductory mathematics courses as well as a broad range of upper level mathematics courses. Responsibilities also include academic advising and student mentoring, conducting undergraduate research and scholarly activities, and supporting the development of the proposed Data Science Degree program through teaching and research.

Minimum Requirements: Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Sciences, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field. Ph.D. or ABD in (degree) or related field, with a strong preference for Ph.D. If ABD, would be hired at the rank of Instructor, with the requirement that the candidate complete the doctoral degree within the first year of employment. Demonstrated evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, research, and curriculum development. Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the modern programming languages such as C, C++, R, Java, Python, PHP, Javascript, etc.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates from all areas of mathematics and computer science will be considered but those with a background and interest in data science and the development of the proposed Data Science Degree program through teaching and research will be preferred. Specifically, in computer science a background in data science, databases, data management, data mining, data visualization, optimization, machine learning, AI, high performance and parallel computation, networking, or cybersecurity. In mathematics, a background and interest in data science, statistics, data analysis, or predictive modeling.
