Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Universidad de Santiago de Chile, calls for applications for a position of Associate or Assistant professor (depending on the credentials of the applicant) to start preferably in March 2020.

We offer a pleasant environment, with a competitive salary (depending on the applicant’s credentials). ​The teaching load is adjusted every year and depends on the applicant's productivity and scientific leadership. Typically, an active researcher has 5 hours of direct teaching per week. The candidate should have received a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field and demonstrate an excellent record in both research and teaching during the last five years. In particular, the candidate should

- Demonstrate experience in teaching in major programs in science or engineering, and demonstrate the ability to develop innovations in teaching.

- Demonstrate the ability to do research in mathematics, preferably, in any of the following areas: Functional analysis and evolution equations, partial differential equations, mathematical physics, dynamical systems, discrete mathematics and optimization, algebra and geometry, probability and stochastic analysis.

- Demonstrate their research experience with publications in recognized journals (for example those considered MB or B of the FONDECYT "List of Journals 2019" FONDECYT, Study Group of Mathematics).

The selected academic shall:

- Perform teaching in mathematics, at both undergraduate and graduate students for major programs in science and engineering. Applicants are expected to be able to teach in Spanish, starting at the latest in March 2021.

- Undertake research preferably in specific areas developed in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, such as functional analysis and evolution equations, partial differential equations, mathematical physics, dynamical systems, discrete mathematics and optimization, algebra, and geometry, probability and stochastic analysis.

- Apply for external research funding (for instance from the national council for science FONDECYT).

- Develop outreach and engagement projects.
