Position Description:

The Department of Mathematics at Wofford College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin in September 2020. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or another closely related field by September 1, 2020. Our new colleague will be expected to teach three courses per semester, plus a course in our January Interim term (beginning in the second year; learn more about this program at https://www.wofford.edu/interim). The teaching load generally, but not always, consists of two introductory classes and one upper-division class, but rarely involves more than two preparations. We seek in particular an applied mathematician who could teach one or more of the following courses in our curriculum: Modeling and Simulation, Mathematical Modeling, and Numerical Methods (descriptions can be found at http://catalog.wofford.edu/courses-programs-departments/mathematics/#coursestext). The successful candidate would also be encouraged to propose and teach new courses to complement the department’s offerings in applied mathematics. We also expect an active and ongoing research program, and we are especially interested in a candidate who demonstrates a plan for incorporating our students into that program. Finally, the successful candidate will be expected to serve the department and college through committee work and through student advising and engagement. To earn tenure, faculty are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, continued scholarly development, and service to the college.

A complete application will include the following:
 • A cover letter;
 • Curriculum vitae;
 • Unofficial graduate transcript;
 • A statement on teaching, including relevant experience and ways in which the
    candidate can support the curriculum as outlined above;
 • A statement of research interests, outlining possible future directions;
 • A statement on fostering a welcoming climate for students and colleagues from
    underrepresented groups; and
 • Three letters of reference, including at least one addressing the candidate’s teaching
   (these should be sent by the referees directly).

All application materials should be submitted electronically to mathjobs@wofford.edu. Review of application materials will begin immediately; completed applications received by October 12 will be guaranteed full consideration. Review of candidates will continue until the position is filled.
