The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at John Carroll University invites applications for a visiting faculty position in Computer Science, to begin January, 2020.  Full consideration will be given to applications that are complete by October 16, 2019, although applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

The initial appointment will be for one semester (January 9, 2020 through May 17, 2020), but the position may be renewable for the 2020-2021 academic year subject to departmental needs and administrative approval.  The teaching responsibility involves approximately 12 hours per semester, usually 3 to 4 courses. 

A Ph.D. in Computer Science or closely related discipline is required for the rank of Assistant Professor, but candidates who have made significant progress towards the Ph.D. are also encouraged to apply at the rank of Instructor. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for excellence in the teaching of Computer Science in a liberal arts setting, have the ability to teach both introductory and upper-level courses, and will be committed to working closely with students and faculty from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds.  Candidates should also be committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in the field of Computer Science.

The department prides itself in offering a diverse selection of majors:  Computer Science, Computer Science with Healthcare Information Technology, Data Science, Mathematics, and Teaching Mathematics.  As a small, dynamic department, we offer the opportunity for faculty and students to explore trending areas, experiment with new pedagogy, and encourage creativity in developing new classes and programs.
