Purpose of Position: The Department of Mathematics at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Mathematics, effective August 2020. This position is a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment with a nominal teaching load of 4-4. This position is open to all areas of mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. Faculty members are expected to teach at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, perform rank appropriate service to the department and university, and maintain disciplinary expertise.

The Ph.D. in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or Statistics or a closely related field is required for appointment at the rank of Lecturer. Individuals who are ABD and will not hold the Ph.D. by the time of appointment and/or possess a master’s degree in a related field may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor. Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable.

Departmental Information: The Department of Mathematics consists of eighteen full-time faculty in various areas of mathematics. There are approximately seventy-five majors in the traditional degree programs and the computational and applied mathematics degree. Additionally, every student at Christopher Newport University must complete at least six credits of mathematics courses. More information about the department can be found at
