Position Description:

The Department of Statistical Science at Baylor University invites applications for a tenuretrack faculty position starting the Fall 2020 semester. The successful applicant will join our dynamic faculty in helping to advance our core mission to provide quality statistics instruction at all levels; to make significant contributions to the discovery and dissemination of statistical knowledge; and to develop, within a Christian environment, ethical scholars, skilled professionals, and educated leaders who are sensitive to the needs of society. While the position includes a competitive guaranteed salary and benefits for the Fall and Spring semesters, the successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a rigorous externally funded research program.

With data science being one of five key initiatives of Baylor’s academic strategic plan Illuminate, the Department of Statistical Science abounds with exciting opportunities for active junior faculty, including the creation of a 4+1 Master’s program, a $1.2 million NSF grant fostering data science education, and a new data science concentration for our 30-student Ph.D. program. Faculty in the Department are supportive and eager to collaborate. While the position is open to all qualified applicants with an earned doctorate in statistics or related field of study at the time of appointment, the Department particularly encourages candidates with a demonstrated interest in data science, e.g. numerical and Monte Carlo methods, statistical machine learning, and modern statistical computing and data science technologies.
