Position Description:    

We invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Data Science at the level of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at John Carroll University, beginning Fall 2020.  Full consideration will be given to candidates whose applications are completed by November 1, 2019, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

First offered in 2017, the B.S. in Data Science at John Carroll University is an interdisciplinary major housed in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.  We seek candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to and potential for excellent teaching in a liberal arts setting, whose research in Data Science invites contributions by undergraduate students, and who will work collaboratively to expand and support Data Science initiatives at both the undergraduate and postbaccalaureate level across the University.  Candidates must have an active research program in some area of Data Science, have the ability to contribute to curricular and program development in Data Science, and will be committed to working closely with students and faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences and the Boler College of Business.  Candidates should also be committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in the field of Data Science.

With a load reduction for research, normal duties include nine hours of teaching per semester and continued scholarship, as well as other departmental and university professional responsibilities.

In addition to the major in Data Science, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers majors in Computer Science, Computer Science with Healthcare Information Technology, Mathematics, and Teaching Mathematics.  We are a small, dynamic department, and as such, we offer the opportunity for faculty and students to explore trending areas, experiment with new pedagogy, and be creative in developing new classes and programs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a Ph.D., or expect completion of the Ph.D. by Fall 2020, in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.  Candidates whose Ph.D. is not in Data Science must have significant experience in Data Science and computing.
