Postdoctoral Research Associate in Applied Mathematics – Grade 7

£34,805 - £40,322 pa

We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to work on an EPSRC-funded project to develop an integrated mathematical model to explore the early stages of bacterial biofilm formation. You will be working with Rachel Bearon and Bakhti Vasiev as part of the Mathematical Biology group and EPSRC Liverpool Centre for Mathematics in Healthcare. Impact from the project will be generated in partnership with the National Biofilms Innovation Centre (co-director Rasmita Raval, Chemistry. Project collaborators include Mal Horsburgh (Health & Life Sciences), academics from the Universities of Manchester (Andrew Hazel) and Sheffield (Mack Durham) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, India (Ganesh Subramanian).

You should have a PhD in a relevant subject such as applied mathematics and have good experience of computer programming in a language such as Matlab or C++. You will be expected to work effectively as a member of the research team, have the ability to develop and apply new concepts, and have a creative approach to problem-solving. Applicants must display clear evidence of outstanding promise and originality in research and have a record of strong publications. They must also have a clear interest and ability in cross-disciplinary research. Experience of modelling the fluid dynamics of active particles and/or developing novel mathematical models based on biological data would be valuable. The post is available as soon as possible until 31st August 2022.
