Description The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the College of Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Applied Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year. The rank of the position is non-negotiable. Join a growing and dynamic group of mathematicians, statisticians, and mathematics educators actively engaged in teaching and scholarship. 

 The Position: Throughout the academic year, you will typically teach a mix of courses in mathematics at the lower division, upper division, and graduate levels. As part of your professional development, we encourage you to engage our graduate students in your scholarly activities. Optimally, you will eventually become the academic adviser of some of our graduate students, helping them by supervising their thesis topics. There are many service opportunities available within our department, college, and university. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Our excellent benefits program includes start-up funds and a reduced teaching load during the first two years. Minimum Qualifications: 
  • A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a related area, with expertise in computational mathematics, nonlinear optimization, or numerical differential equations, from an accredited university by the start date of the appointment.  
  • College or University teaching experience, at least at the level of teaching assistant.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the excellence of our diverse academic community through teaching, research, and service as well as a commitment to work in an inclusive environment.  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in programming and the use of computational tools in research.
 Preferred / Desired Qualifications:  
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and the ability to teach upper division and graduate mathematics classes.  
  • Evidence of excellence in conducting scholarly research activities and the ability to direct master’s thesis students.  
  • Ability and desire to teach programming-oriented courses.
