Butler University expects to conduct a search for a tenure-track statistician with appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2020. Butler University is a comprehensive liberal arts institution with approximately 4900 students, located in a residential area of Indianapolis. The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science. The Department offers bachelor’s degrees in these three majors. It also provides support for an interdisciplinary minor in data science as well as the mathematics component for most other University programs, including the University Core Curriculum.

Candidates must have a PhD in statistics or in mathematics with a major emphasis in statistics. Expectations for the successful candidate include demonstrated excellence in teaching introductory and advanced courses in statistics and possibly data science, success in working with diverse student populations, strong potential for statistics or interdisciplinary research, and readiness to serve collegially within the Department and University.

The standard teaching load is 9 credit hours per semester. While the primary teaching focus for this appointment consists of courses in the statistics major and introductory level statistics, special consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability to teach courses in support of the data science and/or actuarial science programs. An interest and ability to mentor undergraduate research in statistics is also highly desirable.
