*** The account for Mathematics, Louisiana State University of Shreveport has expired. ***

The Department of Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences at Louisiana State University Shreveport invites applications for three positions: a full-time, 9-month faculty position at the rank of instructor, a full-time, 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor or higher, and a chair position to begin August 2020.

The successful instructor candidate will teach general education courses in mathematics, along with their co-requisite labs, and assist with our pilot program academic support services. A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the mathematical sciences and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching on the college level are required. Preference will be given to candidates with excellent communication skills and a demonstrated effectiveness in teaching using student-centered methods.

The successful tenure-track candidate must have a Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics or related field by the time of the appointment and must be able to teach a wide variety of mathematics courses at all levels. Highest consideration will be given to candidates with excellent communication skills, demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, and ongoing research programs that have the potential to involve undergraduate students.

The successful chair candidate will hold either a Ph.D. in mathematics or a Ph.D. in a related field with enough graduate level mathematics credits to allow him/her to teach across the mathematics curriculum. A commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues is required.

Chair responsibilities include scheduling courses, managing curriculum assessment, evaluating faculty, overseeing the departmental budget, creating and managing a collaborative work environment that supports department faculty, assisting in placing incoming freshmen in an appropriate math course and providing vision for the program. These tasks are in addition to the expectations of all mathematics faculty: teaching courses from across the undergraduate mathematics curriculum, advising students, and providing departmental, college, university, and professional service.

Presently the department includes 3 professors, 1 associate professor and 2 instructors. The faculty interests include abstract algebra, mathematics education, geometry, analysis, probability and statistics, and quality control. LSUS has a current enrollment of approximately 7,000 students, enrolled in 21 baccalaureate and 12 graduate programs. Excellent collaborative research opportunities exist within the LSU System, including various programs with LSU Health in Shreveport.

Our department is interested in finding dedicated, energetic colleagues with a passion for teaching and a willingness to engage in active learning with students at all levels.

Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, copies of university transcripts, and three letters of recommendation to mathematics@lsus.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled. For more information about LSUS and the Department of Mathematics visit http://www.lsus.edu.
