Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Statistics

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, though high quality candidates at other ranks are invited to apply. This position is set to begin August 2020.

The department maintains active research groups in Analysis, Algebra & Combinatorics, Computational & Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. The Statistics group has expertise in Bayesian statistics, experimental design, hierarchical models, joint modeling, mathematical statistics, mixed models, sampling, spatial data analysis, statistics education, survival analysis as well as research applications in the areas of biology, ecology, engineering, health, medicine, and social science.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to conduct high level research, obtain extramural funding, work collaboratively with other scientists, and teach a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A competitive startup and salary package will be provided to the successful candidate.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in Statistics or closely related field is required by the start of the appointment date. Both teaching and research are important at the University of Wyoming, and the position requires dedication and proficiency in both areas.

Desired Qualifications

Preference will be given to those applicants with:
  • Expertise in statistics and statistical methodologies,
  • Superb communication skills,
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching,
  • Proficiency in statistical consulting,
  • Potential for obtaining extramural funding,
  • Capability in interdisciplinary research,
  • Development of a research program that addresses the needs of the department.

  • A curriculum vitae,
  • A teaching statement addressing how associated strategies, pedagogies, and successes will enhance departmental instruction,
  • A research statement making the case that the research program of the applicant will supplement or elevate the research conducted by the department.

Location

The university has state of the art facilities and is a cultural center in the state of Wyoming. The university is located in Laramie, which is a town of about 30000 located on a high plain at 7200 feet between the Laramie and Snowy Range mountain ranges. The area has more than 300 days of sunshine a year with outdoor activities that include skiing, hiking, camping, bicycling, fishing, and climbing. Laramie is approximately 1 hour from Colorado near many of many major cities and university communities, including Fort Collins, Boulder, and Denver.
