Assistant Professor, Tenure Track - UMD Mathematics and Statistics Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline from a regionally accredited university by July 1, 2020 • Demonstrated effective written communication skills • Demonstrated commitment to teaching • Evidence of potential to develop a successful research program in mathematics, statistics, or a related discipline

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference will be given to candidates with a background in analysis (broadly construed), statistics, or data sciences • Teaching experience in higher education, including courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels • Experience conducting research in mathematics or statistics • Commitment to conducting collaborative, interdisciplinary research • Good interpersonal skills • Ability to support the University's goal of creating a positive and inclusive campus climate by advancing equity and diversity • Demonstrated effective oral communication skills • Experience working with diverse groups • Experience in effective teaching including active learning and course development This is a tenure-track assistant professor position. Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to effectively creating and teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, developing an independent research program in mathematics or statistics, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals, engaging in departmental activities, pursuing external funding, advising undergraduate and graduate students from diverse groups, and participating in departmental and college outreach. Responsibilities also include fulfilling typical department, college, university and professional service obligations.
