Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in mathematics or statistics at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 2020. Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in mathematics, mathematical sciences or statistics with strong knowledge in applied or pure analysis, or statistics. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and innovation in undergraduate education within a diverse and inclusive environment and peer-reviewed scholarship in ones’ field(s).

Located in beautiful Charleston, S.C., The Citadel is a fully accredited, public, comprehensive, co-educational college with a student body of 2300 undergraduate and 1000 evening and graduate students. The department has 11 full-time faculty members covering the areas of mathematics and statistics. The department offers the B.S. degree in mathematics, undergraduate minors in applied mathematics and applied statistics, and a master’s degree in teaching mathematics. Teaching responsibilities range from introductory courses in mathematics for non-majors to courses for majors and minors. Opportunities to teach graduate-level courses for mathematics teachers are also available. A normal teaching load is twelve credit hours per week with small class sizes. Some other responsibilities include mentoring students through advising and undergraduate research and participating in curricular revisions, creating new courses, and faculty governance.
