The position is funded by the EPSRC grant “Enveloping Algebras of Infinite-Dimensional Lie Algebras”, held by Susan Sierra, which applies techniques from ring theory, noncommutative algebraic geometry, and Poisson algebras to investigate a variety of questions related to these enveloping algebras. Candidates with expertise in infinite-dimensional Lie algebras and their representations and/or Poisson algebras or related topics are particularly encouraged to apply.

Post-holders will be able to pursue their own research questions in addition to joining these larger efforts. The post-holder will join our thriving and growing algebra/geometry/topology group at the Hodge Institute and will be encouraged to interact broadly with the entire group.

The post is offered on a full time, fixed term basis for 24 months and available from 1 September 2020 or as mutually agreed. The starting salary will be in the range of £33,797 - £40,322 per annum, depending on experience.

We encourage candidates with a wide range of backgrounds to apply. Applications from female, gender minority, or underrepresented minority candidates are particularly welcome. Informal enquiries are encouraged; please contact Susan Sierra by email at s.sierra@ed.ac.uk with any questions.
