Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath is inviting applications for an appointment to Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant Professor) in Applied Mathematics.

We are seeking applicants that will either enhance or extend our current strengths. Applicants working in continuum mechanics, at the interface of applied mathematics and data science, and/or with experience in industrial applications of mathematics are particularly encouraged to apply.

You will have shown the potential for achieving and sustaining a leading research programme, and to be active in developing and submitting competitive applications for external funding. You should also have a commitment to pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in supervising graduate students.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences has over 70 academic staff from all areas of Mathematics. There are strong interactions between the research group in Applied and Industrial Mathematics and the research groups in Statistics, Probability, Numerical Analysis and Analysis, as well as a wide variety of interdisciplinary research projects and industrial collaborations. These activities are supported by the Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics at Bath (SAMBa), which has currently over 70 PhD students and an annual intake of 10-20 research students. In addition, the Bath Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI) helps businesses solve complex mathematical and statistical problems, and promotes cross-campus research activities and international collaborations. Various research centres such as the Centre for Mathematical Biology, the Centre for Networks and Collective Behaviour, Centre for Mathematics and Algorithms for Data and the Centre for Nonlinear Mechanics provide focus in interdisciplinary collaborations.

Bath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and provides for a high quality of life, with good transport links to the rest of the UK and fast connections to Bristol and London.
