Position Description:    

JOB PURPOSE: The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Wyoming invites applications for an Academic Professional Lecturer (APL) in statistics at the rank of assistant lecturer beginning August 2020. This is a full-time benefited position. Job duties for this position will include teaching, professional development, advising, and service to the department and university. The expected teaching load is 3-4 courses per term, some of which will be delivered online.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position entails responsibility for effective teaching, advising, service, and professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in the department by continuing to develop distance education and to provide support and leadership for the lower-division program in statistics. This includes the development of student instructors and articulation with Wyoming high schools and community colleges. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The department currently consists of 28 faculty and lecturers and maintains active research groups in Statistics, Analysis, Algebra & Combinatorics, Computational & Applied Mathematics. The department is also home to about 30 graduate students and maintains lively graduate programs in mathematics and statistics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in statistics or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in statistics.
  • Experience teaching statistics at the college level.   
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • PhD degree in statistics or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in statistics.
  • Experience or interest in coordinating and teaching lower-division courses in statistics and/or mathematics;
  • Experience or interest in coordinating and teaching lower-division courses in statistics and/or mathematics;
  • Experience or interest in the training and development of student instructors/tutors in statistics;
  • Experience or interest in the role of tutoring centers to support student success in statistics;
  • Experience or interest in the development and implementation of innovative and effective pedagogy for the lower-division courses;
  • Familiarity with several computational programs such as R, Python, MatLab, Julia, Mathematica, C++.
