The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor or Visiting Associate Teaching Professor position, to begin August 1, 2020. The position will be based in branch campus in Doha, Qatar and will be teaching undergraduates pursuing degrees in Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Computational Biology, Computer Science and Information System. The standard teaching load for teaching-track faculty in Mathematical Sciences at CMU-Q is two courses per semester. The two course per semester load is standard at CMU-Q because we do not offer TA support for any of the math and/or science courses offered here. The initial two year appointment may lead to a regular teaching faculty appointment depending upon performance, future curricular needs and available resources.

It is also helpful to know that Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation’s Education City. Our branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus, which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in Education City are a broad mix of over fifty nationalities, but are primarily from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. CMU-Q’s faculty is also a mix of professionals from different countries.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences is committed to increasing the diversity of our faculty. Carnegie Mellon considers applicants for employment without regard to, and does not discriminate on the basis of, gender, race, protected veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and any other legally protected status.

To be considered, a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related discipline is required. Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching is expected. Preference will be given to candidates with sustained demonstrated excellence in teaching and have the potential to contribute to educational initiatives in the mathematical sciences group and across the University.

Application Instructions
