Postdoctoral Research Associate in Applied Mathematics

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Applied Mathematics focused on network science and data science. The position will be based at the School of Mathematics, University of Edinburgh, and is available from 1st May or a mutually agreeable date, for a 24 months fixed-term contract.

The successful candidate will work with Prof D J Higham as part of the EPSRC Programme grant ‘Inference, Computation and Numerics for Insights into Cities’ https://iconicmath.org in collaboration with teams at the Universities of Cambridge, Manchester and Oxford. The project focuses on uncertainty quantification for mathematical models relating to urban environments. The particular emphasis in this postdoctoral position is the development of theory and algorithms for the analyse of large-scale, multi-level networks arising in from social, environmental and technological interactions. The candidate will join the Applied & Computational Mathematics group of the School of Mathematics.

Applicants should hold a PhD by the start date, demonstrate an outstanding research potential and have a strong background in one or more of: spectral methods for network analysis, topological data analysis, random graph theory and modelling, and large-scale matrix computation, evidenced by high-quality publications.

The starting salary will be in the range of £33,797 - £40,322 per annum depending on experience. All applicants should apply online.
