Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics at SUNY Geneseo is seeking applicants for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer to begin August 2022. The initial appointment is for one year, but it is a renewable appointment. The Department of Mathematics (16 full-time members) encompasses both pure and applied mathematics, as well as very strong secondary mathematics teacher preparation and actuarial programs. The Department offers a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, B.S. in Mathematics, B.A. in Mathematics, B.A. in Mathematics with Adolescence (Secondary Education) Certification, Minor in Mathematics, Minor in Biomathematics, and Concentration in Mathematics for Elementary Education. Mathematics is one of the largest majors on campus with over 220 majors, and we have one of the largest collection of minors with over 60 students minoring in Mathematics or Biomathematics. 

Duties for a Lecturer include: 
  • Teaching introductory level courses for majors and non-majors, with the possibility of teaching more advanced courses. 
  • Providing academic advisement to students. 
  • Providing service to the department, college, profession, and community.
Our priority is teaching excellence, and we seek someone with recent and documented experience as a teacher of undergraduates, an enthusiastic commitment to undergraduate instruction at all levels, and the ability to teach a variety of courses that serve our mathematics students. 

We seek candidates who will create a climate that helps attract and is inclusive of all students, including students from historically underrepresented groups and students who have overcome personal challenges. Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics by August 2022. 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching as a mathematics instructor at the level of calculus or above, and an enthusiastic commitment to undergraduate instruction. 
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working and teaching environment. 

Preferred Qualifications 
  • Evidence of preparation and willingness to teach any of the following: Probability, Statistics, Pre-calculus, or Mathematics courses for Elementary Education majors. 
  • Evidence of preparation and willingness to supervise student teaching for adolescence education certification in Mathematics. (Secondary mathematics teaching experience is necessary.)
