INDIANA UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS RESEARCH POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP in CATEGORICAL SYMMETRIES

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship as part of the Simons Collaboration on Global Categorical Symmetries, beginning Fall 2022. This is a joint physics and mathematics research program focused on the interplay between quantum field theory, topology, modular categories, higher category theory, and representation theory. Further information about the Collaboration and its research activities can be found at https://scgcs.berkeley.edu .

Candidates are expected to show outstanding promise in research relevant to the Collaboration themes as described at the above link. Postdoctoral fellows will be mentored by Charlotte Ann Griffin Assistant Professor Julia Plavnik and will join thriving Mathematics departmental research groups in algebra and topology. Simons Collaboration Grant-funded research opportunities will include extended visits to other Collaboration sites, contributions to joint research activities, and participation in workshops and summer schools.

The appointment is a non-tenure-track position. The terms of appointment will be similar to the NSF postdoctoral fellowship, equivalent to one year of full-time research and two years with a reduced teaching load of one course per semester. The annual salary for the position will be $54,500. There will be opportunities for partial summer support.

The Department maintains strong research groups in all of the principal fields of mathematics. Bloomington is located in the forested hills of southern Indiana and offers a rich variety of musical and cultural attractions. Indiana University is committed to building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community of students and scholars. We encourage applications from candidates who will contribute to furthering these goals.
