Position Description: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Cleveland State University has an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Applied and Computational Mathematics. The starting date of the appointment is August 22, 2022. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers B.S., B.A., and M.S. degrees in Mathematics, and an M.S. in Mathematics with a Specialization in Applied Statistics. The University, College of Sciences and Health Professions, and Department seek to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber. The successful applicant is expected to carry out an active program of research in applied and computational mathematics. The research is expected to be computationally intensive and interdisciplinary, but the area of research extends to contemporary areas of applied mathematics such as computational geometry or topological data analysis, as well as more traditional areas of applied mathematics such as PDEs. The successful applicant is also expected to seek external funding, to teach undergraduate and graduate courses to our students in mathematics, and to participate in the usual department and university service.

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. earned by July 1, 2022 in mathematics or applied mathematics; an active research program in applied and computational mathematics; strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: A strong research program in applied and computational mathematics, with experience in solving data driven problems; research that complements or overlaps with the Department’s existing areas of research strength; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students; experience with innovative methods of instruction and assessment; a research agenda open to across-campus and off-campus collaborations; evidence of a substantial contribution to a successful academic event, initiative, or ongoing activity; the ability to contribute through research/scholarship, teaching, and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community. Successful candidates should be able to include undergraduate students in research while helping them prepare for graduate study, internships, or their future career.
