The Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications for a position as Full Professor or Associate Professor of Statistics. The application deadline is 17. September 2023, and the starting date is 1 April 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter, subject to negotiation.

We welcome applications in all areas of statistics, including applied statistics, statistical methodology, computational statistics, machine learning and mathematical statistics.

The position may be applied for at the associate professor level or at the full professor level. Please note that it is possible to apply at both levels. We encourage you to do so if in doubt. If you apply at both levels, two separate applications must be submitted (see below).

Applicants are expected to have an internationally highly recognized record of outstanding achievement in research with ground-breaking contributions to the applicant's area of specialization and to have strong documented university level teaching credentials. They must be able to explain and reflect upon their own teaching practice and portfolio. Pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is necessary. Candidates are also expected to have managerial qualifications, for instance in managing their own research group, and outreach experience.

Duties include furthering the applicant’s own research, development of the scientific field, research assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management including research supervision. Duties can include interdisciplinary research projects and participation in research-based statistical consulting in the Data Science Laboratory. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations within statistics, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department. Teaching obligations may include activities with external partners in our continued education programme.

The Department is a leading mathematics institution with a vibrant and friendly international research environment that spans several areas of mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics. The research within the section of Statistics and Probability Theory (SPT) spans a broad selection of areas, including mathematical biology, applied statistics, causality, graphical models, functional data analysis, inference for stochastic processes as well as non- and semiparametric asymptotic theory. The faculty of SPT is, in addition, engaged in several interdisciplinary research projects with collaborators in ecology, genetics and genomics, health, plant and food sciences, physics, computer science and economics. SPT also runs the statistics part of The Data Science Laboratory, which is a joint venture with the Department of Computer Science that supports, teaches and collaborates with researchers and students across the Faculty of Science on all aspects of data science, including statistics. The department also has strong groups in actuarial and financial mathematics, operations research and quantum information theory and several areas of pure mathematics.
