Position Description

The Department of Mathematics at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for a tenure-track full-time faculty position as Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2025. We seek candidates who can teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in mathematics, applied mathematics, and/or statistics. Candidates should also be able to advance their research and, ideally, lead undergraduate research projects. Ideal applicants will have an established record of teaching excellence, scholarship, advising students, and service to their departments and their disciplines. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in statistics, applied mathematics, or other branches of mathematics that would support degrees in statistics, applied math, or data science. Gonzaga’s faculty are collaborative and opportunities exist to work with faculty in other departments and schools, including Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Health Sciences, and Engineering.

Job duties: • Teach 18 credit hours of courses per year (normally 3 courses per semester). • Develop and teach courses on topics in mathematics, applied mathematics, and/or statistics • Advise students in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, and possibly other areas • Advance a scholarly research agenda in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or a closely-related field • Support the department, university, and discipline through service and other forms of academic citizenship

Minimum qualifications: • Ph.D. in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or other closely-related field completed by August 15, 2025 • Ability to develop and teach undergraduate courses in support of mathematics, applied mathematics, and/or statistics degrees • Record of teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in mathematics, applied mathematics, and/or statistics • A record of early-stage scholarly activity

Preferred qualifications: • Evidence of effectiveness in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate level • A record of creating inclusive learning environments that address the needs of diverse learners from a variety of backgrounds, identities, and cultures including students from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented and underserved in higher education • A well-defined scholarly agenda with a record of achievement (e.g., publications, presentations, etc.), with evidence of and/or a plan for supporting undergraduate research • Commitment to advancing the University’s mission
