Position Description

Project summary: The project aims at developing novel analytical tools and methodologies to quantify and control the accuracy of deep learning approximations for initial- and boundary-value problems. Specific objectives will be to establish a practical existence theory for multi-level deep learning, develop error estimates with respect to quantities of interest, design a framework for automatic multi-level deep learning with accuracy control, and assess the methodologies on practical test cases pertinent to scientific machine learning.

Work environment: The successful candidate will work in the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal under the joint supervision of Profs. Serge Prudhomme (Polytechnique Montréal) and Simone Brugiapaglia (Concordia University). Qualifications: 1.Ph.D. in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields, obtained within the last three years. 2.Relevant expertise in deep learning, numerical analysis, and scientific computing with a solid theoretical background. 3.Excellent command of English with demonstrated ability in scientific writing.

Start date and duration: As early as possible. The position is for one year, extendable to two years, subject to performance and funding availability.
