Fellowship ID: IMA-REGULARPOSTDOC [#2940]
Fellowship Title: IMA Postdoctoral Fellowship
Fellowship Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota 55455-0134, United States [map]
Application Deadline: finished (posted 2011/08/17, listed until 2012/01/01)
Fellowship Description:

IMA POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS (2 years in duration) beginning Fall 2012 provide an excellent opportunity for mathematical scientists near the beginning of their career who have a background in and/or an interest in the wide variety of fields related to the 2012-2013 annual program year. (The IMA program next year is "Infinite Dimensional and Stochastic Dynamical Systems and their Applications", and will involve a great variety of mathematics, physics, and biology. Related topics include, but are certainly not limited to: dynamical systems and partial differential equations; random, lattice and nonlocal dynamical systems and applications; theory and applications of stochastic PDEs; stochastic modeling of biological processes, the Oceans and the Atmosphere.).

These IMA Postdoctoral Fellowships run one to two years, at the option of the holder, starting August 31, 2012. In the second year of the appointment there are a variety of options to enhance career development, including continued work on the fellow's established research program, participation in the 2013-2014 academic year program, teaching, and working on an industrial project. Postdoctoral fellows receive a salary of $55,000 annually, and a travel allowance. Documentation of completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree in mathematics or a related area by the start of the appointment is required.

If in addition to this IMA Postdoctoral Fellowship, you wish to be considered for an IMA Industrial Postdoctoral Fellowship, please apply for that Industrial Postdoctoral Program separately (providing a separate personal statement) through MathJobs.

The research statement you submit is an important part of your application and it is very possible that the research statement you use for other postdoctoral applications will need to be augmented for this application. Your statement should not only outline your interests and goals, but should also indicate why the IMA Postdoc Fellowship, and next year's annual program on dynamical systems, simulation and applications, would be an effective place for you to pursue these interests and goals. (See http://www.ima.umn.edu/2012-2013/ for a description of next year's annual program.)
