ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPENING
POSITION: Tenure-track Assistant ProfessorSTARTING DATE: September 2013
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ABD or Ph.D. in Mathematics with a specialization in geometry, broadly understood. This includes but is not limited to topology, algebraic geometry, projective geometry, differential geometry, convex geometry, and non-Euclidean geometry. Candidates must have the ability and interest in teaching upper division and graduate courses in geometry and topology. A Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher education is required for retention. Candidates must have a record of or the potential for scholarly activity, involving students whenever possible, as well as the demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability or interest in teaching in a multicultural, multiethnic campus and must have proficiency in oral and written communication.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate at time of appointment from an accredited university. Interest in history of mathematics and the ability to teach courses in this area.
DUTIES: In addition to teaching at all levels, duties include student advisement and committee service for the Department, the College of Natural and Social Sciences, and the University. It is expected that the successful candidate will teach a range of courses in his/her area of expertise and will participate in the curriculum development process. Publications in peer reviewed journals and/or grant activity is required for tenure, as is participation in university service and university outreach programs.
THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Mathematics offers B.A., B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mathematics. The Department has 17 full-time faculty, and approximately 30 teaching associates and 40 part-time faculty.

SALARY RANGE: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
