The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. This position is expected to contribute to the department’s undergraduate program in actuarial sciences via teaching, advising/mentoring students, and helping support related co-curricular activities and projects. Cincinnati is home to many insurance companies (such as Ohio National Financial Services, Great American Insurance, Cincinnati Financial, Western-Southern Insurance) that provide internships and other opportunities for students in the actuarial sciences track, and this program has great potential for continued growth and development.

The department is dedicated to excellence in both research and teaching. We seek candidates with a doctorate or equivalent foreign degree in mathematics or statistics who will pursue an active research program that complements the research activities in the department, especially probability/stochastic processes, mathematical finance, analysis, or interdisciplinary applied mathematics. The department has particular research strength and a record of external funding in statistics and probability, analysis and partial differential equations, and applied mathematics, and maintains a strong graduate program leading to MS and PhD degrees in statistics and pure and applied mathematics. The normal teaching load for research-active faculty is six credit hours per semester with a three credit hour reduction for new faculty in each of the first two years and a reduced service role. The job duties include maintaining an active research program, mentoring students, and teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses.
