Position Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics, tenure-track.

Brief Description: The Department of Mathematics at San Francisco State University invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position with a specialization in Geometry or Topology, beginning August 2016. The said Department has 19 tenured and 3 tenure-track faculty members dedicated to an outstanding environment for professional achievement and education. Mathematics faculty members at San Francisco State University are expected to engage in research and related professional activities, teach advanced level and lower division classes, and perform service for the Department and the University. Successful candidates for this position are expected to engage in outstanding original research and scholarly activities in Geometry or Topology, seek external funding, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, mentor and advise students, supervise student research in areas related to Geometry or Topology, and perform service for the Department and the University. Required Qualifications: Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics, a strong background in Geometry or Topology, and the ability to teach all advanced level and lower division classes in mathematics, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. For the Assistant Professor rank, there must be strong evidence of professional accomplishment in Geometry or Topology, together with either proven success in securing external funding or exceptional promise in doing so. Candidates for the Associate Professor rank must have an established record of research leadership in Geometry or Topology, and a track-record of continual success in securing external funding as PI.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in research in Geometry or Topology, and closely related fields; track record of funded or highly fundable grant proposals; exemplary track record in teaching; evidence of inclusion of students in research; evidence of fruitful collaboration with researchers and practitioners in Geometry or Topology, and related fields; ability to cultivate and maintain collegial working relationships. Candidates with experience in multicultural settings are preferred.

Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, both tenure-track. Salary commensurate with experience, accomplishment, and research leadership potential/record. The CSU provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.
