Postdoctoral Position in Heidelberg

The Mathematical Institute at the University of Heidelberg invites applications for a postdoctoral position at the interface of geometry and theoretical physics to start in Fall 2016.

The successful applicant will join the new research group of Prof. Walcher at the mathematical end of the bridge to the Institute for Theoretical Physics, and contribute to the interactions with the relevant research groups in both departments. (Other similar positions are available in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, as well as the Mathematics Center Heidelberg (MATCH). The present call is for mathematicians with interests in theoretical physics, and physicists with a more mathematical profile.)

Applicants must have obtained a doctoral degree in physics or mathematics, and demonstrate an outstanding research potential with interests at the interface between algebraic geometry and theoretical physics, including, but in no ways limited to, mirror symmetry and its ramifications.

The position includes access to travel funding and offers the countless advantages of a modern campus in the environment of a traditional university town. The appointment will normally be made for two years, with the possibility of an extension to a third year upon mutual agreement.

To apply, the applicant should submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications, statement of research interests, and arrange for at least three (3) letters of recommendation. All applications should be submitted through the MathJobs.Org website. Under demonstrably exceptional circumstances, applications and letters will also be accepted by regular mail to: Prof. J. Walcher, Mathematical Institute, Im Neuenheimer Feld 288, 69120 Heidelberg, GERMANY.

Review of applications will begin on December 15, 2015, and continue until the position is filled.
