The Department of Statistics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applicants for the Lindsay Assistant Research Professorship, a position created to honor the memory of our late colleague Bruce G. Lindsay and his commitment to the mentoring of young scientists and teachers. Individuals will receive a very competitive salary and benefits, teach one to two courses per year in an environment supportive of the latest innovations in statistical education, and conduct research under the close mentorship of prominent faculty in various areas of statistical methodology and applications. These include, but are not limited to, projects under the mentorship of Professors Matthew Reimherr and Aleksandra Slavkovic on statistical aspects of data privacy, including nonparametric statistics, statistics over nonlinear spaces such as manifolds and metric spaces, and synthetic data. Successful applicants can contribute in a variety of ways, including computation, statistical or machine learning methodology, and/or mathematical theory, depending on the applicant`s background. Applicants with other research or mentor goals are still encouraged to apply and highlight their interests in Penn State. The position will also offer ample opportunity to interact with Penn State`s world-class faculty, postdocs and graduate students in various interdisciplinary and interdepartmental programs. At the time he/she joins the department, the successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Statistics or closely related field, and will receive an initial appointment of two years which could begin as early as August 2020.
