Job Description: SUNY Maritime College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics. The Science Department is a multidisciplinary department with a major in marine environmental science with mathematics faculty making up approximately half of the department. The department prides itself on having a collaborative culture that emphasizes pedagogical excellence. The typical teaching load for this position will be twelve credits per semester with small class sizes, and will consist of courses in pre-calculus, engineering and business-level calculus, and/or statistics. Typical students are majoring in engineering, marine transportation, marine environmental science, international transportation and trade, or maritime studies, with the majority simultaneously pursuing a U.S. Coast Guard license.

Description of Duties: • Teach courses in mathematics at the undergraduate level • Participate in departmental curriculum development and assessment • Maintain office hours for assisting students • Engage in scholarly activities • University service including participation on committees

Requirements: Required Qualifications • Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field (earned on or before August 1, 2020) • Previous experience teaching mathematics courses (pre-calculus, calculus, and/or statistics) classes at the college level • Strong pedagogical and communications skills

Desired Qualification • Interest in community outreach, STEM initiations and/or K-12 science education • Background in applied mathematics

Additional Information: Classification/Salary Range: The Assistant Professor of Mathematics is a tenure-track, academic year UUP Position. The anticipated salary for the position is $65,000 - $70,000 with an outstanding benefits package (for additional information please see the UUP Benefit Summary). Special Notes: This is a 10-Month academic year appointment UUP position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
