The Department of Mathematics at SUNY Geneseo is seeking applicants for two Visiting Assistant Professors to begin August, 2020. The initial appointment is for one year, with possibility of reappointment for an additional year. A completed Ph.D. by the position start date is preferred.

Duties of the position include:

• Teaching introductory and intermediate level courses for majors and non-majors.

• Pursuing an active and ongoing research agenda in mathematics.

• Contributing to department functioning through committee service.

• Demonstrated commitment to working and teaching in a diverse and inclusive environment.

The Department of Mathematics (20 full-time members) encompasses both pure and applied mathematics, as well as very strong secondary mathematics teacher preparation and actuarial programs, including a B.A. in Mathematics, B.A. in Mathematics with Adolescence (Secondary Education) Certification, B.S. in Applied Mathematics, B.S. in Mathematics, Minor in Mathematics, Minor in Biomathematics, and Concentration in Mathematics for Elementary Education. Mathematics is the 7th largest major on campus with over 260 majors, over 20 percent pursuing the secondary education certification.

Our priority is teaching excellence, and we seek someone with recent and documented experience as a teacher of undergraduate mathematics, an enthusiastic commitment to undergraduate instruction at all levels, the ability to teach a variety of courses that serve mathematics majors, as well as service courses for non-majors, and a commitment to working effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities of the selected applicant will include teaching undergraduate courses in mathematics, advancing an ongoing program in mathematics/statistics research, and providing service to the department, campus community, and discipline. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics or Statistics (or closely some related area, such as Computational Math).
