Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi invites applications for outstanding candidates for a five-year academic position (Chair of Excellence), open to candidates with a strong background in the field of Data Science and Deep Learning, and an experience of applied research projects. The candidate will work in close collaboration with Total, a major energy operator, sponsor of the position.

The priorities of the appointment are the excellence of the applicant’s research record and their ability to conduct a world-class collaboration with Total, within the new Sorbonne Center for Artificial Intelligence (SCAI).

The successful candidate will lead the research partnership between Total and SCAI in the general field of Machine Learning for complex physical phenomena, with applications in short and long-term forecasts of hydrocarbons production. This covers many potential research directions and the profile is largely open. He/she will have the responsibility to lead the chair of excellence and to coordinate a multidisciplinary team (2 PhD will be hired), in close connection with the Department of Computer Science at Sorbonne University (Paris, France).

Candidates holding a faculty position will be considered with higher priority. Such applicants as those holding an Associate or Full Professor position are expected to have a strong background in Mathematics/Statistics and Machine Learning, with a proven record of international peer-reviewed publications, covering both theoretical and practical aspects. Particular attention will be given to candidates with experience in mentoring PhD students, with a record in teaching at graduate level, and a potential for effective leadership. The recruited scholar is also expected to collaborate with resident faculty members of the Department of Sciences and Engineering, in promoting the department’s activities on local, regional and international levels and in participating to the University life. The candidate will report to the Steering Committee of the Chair of Excellence.
