The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Saarland University is inviting applications for the following position (tenured full professorship, German salary scale W3) commencing at the earliest opportunity

Professorship (W3) for Mathematics and Computer Science with a Focus on Applied Algebra and Geometry (reference number W1736)

We are looking for applications by excellent internationally visible researchers working in the area of applied algebra and geometry with applications in Computer Science. Possible fields of research are e.g. algebraic geometry, algebraic and topological combinatorics, algebraic topology, category theory, convex and discrete geometry, differential geometry, group and representation theory, multilinear algebra, (non) commutative algebra and quantum groups, number theory and cryptography, together with respective applications in Computer Science. The research profile of the professorship should have close connections to the Collaborative Research Centre SFB TRR 195 “Symbolic tools in mathematics and their application”. An embedding of the professorship into the SFB TRR 195 is desired.

The professorship belongs as a joint professorship to both departments (Mathematics and Computer Science) of the Faculty. Active participation in research and teaching is required, including teaching basic courses of both Mathematics and Computer Science, especially in the academic program Mathematics and Computer Science. Excellent research qualifications and very good teaching abilities are expected. The teaching languages are English and (in the basic courses) German. The successful candidate is expected to acquire the ability to teach in German after a suitable period.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Saarland University is working closely with the Max Planck Institutes for Informatics and for Software Systems, the CISPA- Helmholtz Center for Information Security, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) as well as the Center for Bioinformatics. All are located on campus.
