Postdoctoral Researcher

In Applied Mathematics

MPI MiS is a research institute located in Leipzig, Germany. Our research advances outward looking mathematics. We develop mathematical methods for applications, and we translate problems from the sciences, humanities and engineering into mathematical challenges. We are committed to innovative fundamental research, and to transferring concepts and structures from mathematics into other academic fields.

The position belongs to the group of Venkat Chandrasekaran (California Institute of Technology;, who received a Max Planck Sabbatical Award and will spend his sabbatical at MPI MiS in 2021. The group will be closely collaborating with the established groups in nonlinear algebra, algebraic geometry, tensors and optimization, and information geometry. Applications are invited from candidates across the mathematical sciences with interests in optimization, mathematics of data science, and applied algebraic geometry.

We offer:

  • Postdoctoral position for 1 year.
  • No teaching duties, but the possibility to teach an advanced course in our international graduate school.
  • We provide a scientific environment where you are encouraged to explore new scientific directions and where you will find many partners with whom you can discuss a wide range of scientific ideas.
  • Deadline: October 1, 2020 (starting date preferably January 1, 2021).
