THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong. DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED MATHEMATICS Postdoctoral Fellow (Ref. 20081809) [Appointment period: twelve or twenty-four months, with possibility of further appointment] Duties The appointee will assist the project leader in the research project - “Numerical methods and analysis for the Allen-Cahn and Cahn-Hilliard equations with a thin phase transition layer”. Qualifications Applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics or an equivalent qualification and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application. Applicants should also have: (a) a strong background in theoretical analysis or numerical analysis of PDEs; and (b) have worked in one of the following: (i) well-posedness and regularity analysis of time-dependent nonlinear PDEs (such as Navier-Stokes equations, nonlinear Schrodinger equation, nonlinear wave equation, shallow or deep water equations, etc.); (ii) numerical analysis for time-dependent nonlinear PDEs; or (iii) surface PDEs, surface evolution, curvature flow, two-phase interface flow or related topics.
