This postdoctoral fellowship is part of the National Covid-19 Modelling Rapid Response Task Force; a Canadian Institutes of Health
Research (CIHR) funded study,
led by The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences (Fields), in partnership with the
Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS), Centre de recherches
mathématiques (CRM), and Pacific
Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), and in collaboration with the
Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), Vaccine and
Infectious Disease Organization - International Vaccine Centre (VIDO-Intervac),
and the National Research Council Canada (NRC). The postdoctoral fellow will be co-hosted and supervised by the Fields-CQAM Laboratory of Mathematics for Public Health (Professors Kumar Murty and Jianhong Wu) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Professor Lydia Bourouiba).
This collaborative, inter-institutional project involves development of advanced platforms of modeling of fluid dynamics, multiphase and particle laden flows under a range of conditions and interfacing with multi-scale modeling of disease transmission rooted in data validation and observational data on disease spread in a range of indoor settings. The project also involves development and applications of novel high-precision, modeling multi-physics models coupled with network multi-scale modeling and original data analysis.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in applied mathematics/mathematical physics or a related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to carry out creative, innovative, independent research, have peer-reviewed publications and have mastery of modeling in fluid dynamics. In addition, they will have a large set of mathematical modeling skills and the ability to interface with other modelers and fields to reduce models into essential physically/biologically-rooted essential components. The appointment is expected to be for one year, with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds. The successful candidate must be able to start immediately. To apply, please contact Professor Lydia Bourouiba at bgadmin@mit.edu with your CV, including three named referees, and a list of your top three publications with an explanation of your contributions and why they were selected with respect to the publication. Please use the subject line “Fields fluids postdoc application" in your email.
Applications received by October 1 2020 will be guaranteed full consideration, but we will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.
The Fields Institute is a centre for mathematical research activity - a place where mathematicians from Canada and abroad, from academia, business, industry and financial institutions, can come together to carry out research and formulate problems of mutual interest.
