We are seeking an advanced assistant professor to take duties in our study programs Mathematics for Teacher Education (bachelor) and Teacher Education of Mathematics for Upper Secondary Schools (master). Applications are invited from candidates with active research in mathematics education and an adequate publication record (commensurate with experience) in the field of mathematics education.

Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate in mathematics education or a related field and must possess a solid mathematics background and experience with mathematics education at lower or upper secondary schools or universities. Candidates for the position must be willing to contribute to teaching and program development in the teacher education, conduct research, publish in significant refereed journals, and seek outside funding. The candidate should be ready to master the Czech language within 1-2 years to be able to teach university courses in Czech.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University is the leading institution in mathematics in Czechia; mathematics teacher education has a long-time tradition here (over fifty years). The Department of Mathematics Education offers an open minded and affable environment for research and teaching; we collaborate with other specializations in the teacher education program, with other university departments, and with our local partnership high schools.

Qualification requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in mathematics education or similar field,
  • teaching experience and research in mathematics education or related field,
  • positive attitude towards pedagogical work, ability to integrate research and teaching activities as well as supervising student theses,
  • publication record in impacted journals or other significant media,
  • experience from foreign academic or research institutions,
  • experience with high-school teaching of mathematics is welcome.

Expected starting date is October 1, 2021, and it is negotiable.
