The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University seeks applications to fill two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions, beginning in the 2021 – 2022 academic year. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related field, a strong commitment to quality teaching, and be active in research. In particular, we seek applicants in the fields of analysis or applied mathematics and whose research complements our current faculty interests in these areas. The position carries a standard teaching load of three courses each Fall and Spring semester. Other responsibilities include research in the field of mathematics, advising students, and service to the department, college and university. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Sam Houston State University is a comprehensive public institution of higher education located in historic Huntsville, 60 miles north of Houston. The university has an enrollment of approximately 20,000 students. The Carnegie Commission on Higher Education classifies SHSU as a “Doctoral Research University.” In each of the last six years, the Chronicle of Higher Education has named the university a “Great College to Work For.” The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 29 tenured or tenure-track faculty in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. The BA, BS, and MS degrees are offered in Mathematics. In addition, the MA degree is offered in Mathematics Education. The MS degree is offered in Statistics, along with Statistics minors at the undergraduate level. The department is actively involved in undergraduate research and developing innovative teaching methods that encourage students to be more actively engaged in the study of mathematics.
