The Department of Mathematics in the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position with an anticipated (but flexible) start date in August 2021. This is a fixed term appointment for 1 year (12 months) and assumes no teaching load. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or a related area prior to their appointment start date.

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with the members of the Statistics group (including Dr. Jay Bartroff, Dr. Larry Goldstein, and Dr. Stanislav Minsker) on problems covering a range of topics in mathematical statistics and statistical learning theory, such as robust algorithms, estimation of covariance matrices, questions in the theory of empirical processes as well as foundations of deep learning. A strong background in probability theory, mathematical statistics and/or related areas such as signal processing is required, and expertise in one of the aforementioned topics is a plus.
