The Southeast Center for Mathematics and Biology (SCMB) invites applications for postdoctoral scholar positions to start August 2021.

SCMB is an NSF-Simons Research Center for Mathematics of Complex Biological Systems. It is headquartered at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and has six partner institutions around the southeast --- Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tulane University, the University of South Florida, the University of Florida, Clemson University, and Duke University.

A core mission of SCMB is catalyzing new cross-disciplinary collaborations between interdisciplinary mathematicians and experimental biologists. As part of that initiative, the center is supporting another cohort of seven postdoctoral positions for recent PhD's to start August 2021.

Each postdoctoral scholar will be appointed to one of the SCMB home institutions listed above. S/he will be mentored by an interdisciplinary mathematician at that institution, and collaborate with biosystems experimentalists at Georgia Tech as part of an SCMB-funded Seed Project team. For more information on the different Seed Projects, see http://scmb.gatech.edu/research.

Each position will provide a competitive yearly salary with standard benefits. The appointment is expected to be for two years, with annual renewal subject to satisfactory progress. Extension to a third year may be possible, contingent on available funding.

Requirements include: A PhD (or its equivalent) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics or other closely related field; Demonstrated research excellence; Strong oral and written communication skills.

Applications from recent PhDs (within three years of the start of the appointment) will receive priority review.

Note that prior interdisciplinary experience is not required; excellent candidates looking to broaden their field of interest are strongly encouraged to apply.

SCMB is committed to diversity in excellence, and participating faculty have strong track records supporting inclusive research environments. Hence, applications by qualified candidates from groups underrepresented in the mathematical sciences are particularly encouraged.

Applications must be submitted through the www.mathjobs.org website.

For full consideration, all required materials must be included. Required materials are an AMS Standard Cover Sheet, cover letter, curriculum vitae (including publication list), research statement, teaching statement, and four letters of recommendation. One letter of recommendation must explicitly address teaching interest, abilities, and related experience.

Note that the candidate's cover letter must clearly communicate interest in an interdisciplinary postdoctoral position and list one, or more, specific Seed Projects of interest.

Review of applications will begin 15 December 2020 and continue until the positions are filled.

Questions regarding specific Seed Projects should be directed to the individual faculty listed under http://scmb.gatech.edu/research. General questions regarding SCMB postdoctoral positions may be directed to scmb-postdoc-app@math.gatech.edu.

SCMB, Georgia Tech, and all partner institutions are equal opportunity employers and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any classification protected by federal, state, or local law. Consistent with its obligations under federal law, each company that is a federal contractor or subcontractor is committed to taking affirmative action to employ and advance in employment qualified women, minorities, disabled individuals and veterans. Candidates with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities are encouraged to apply.
