Our Mathematical Institute for Machine Learning and Data Science which is currently being founded at the Faculty of Mathematics and Geography invites applications for the

Chair of Applied Mathematics (W3)
(endowed chair of the City of Ingolstadt)


to be filled by October 1, 2021, initially for a limited period of 5 years. The University is making an effort to convert the position into a permanent professorship in the long term. Applicants should have an excellent international reputation in a field of mathematics relevant to the industry and business through research and application.

Your responsibilities

  • Strengthening and expanding the scientific profile of the KU
  • Committed participation in and taking over of courses in mathematics, statistics or computer science in the degree programs of the Mathematical Institute for Machine Learning and Data Science (in German and English)
  • Participation in academic self-administration
  • Acquisition of peer-reviewed third-party funding
  • High commitment in the Mathematical Institute for Machine Learning and Data Science
  • Cooperation with the planned Center for Ethics as well as with the Artificial Intelligence Network Ingolstadt gGmbH (AININ)

Your profile

  • Excellent internationally recognized research expertise, proven by relevant publications, in a field of applied mathematics, such as numerical analysis, optimization, optimal control, applied harmonic analysis, partial differential equations, mathematical modeling or inverse problems, also with respect to industrial applications
  • Experience with successful acquisition of peer-reviewed third-party funding
  • International network and willingness to engage in further international collaboration
  • Proven educational skills and teaching experience
