SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Department of Applied Mathematics at Florida Polytechnic University seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor with broad teaching capacity that supports an undergraduate degree in Engineering Mathematics and has a research specialization in Mathematical Medicine and Biology (which may include Computational Neuroscience, neural imaging, brain informatics, bio-inspired data science, brain signal generation and propagation, brain disease modeling, etc) at the Assistant Professor level to begin on August 15, 2021. The Department of Applied Mathematics at Florida Polytechnic University has embarked on a new initiative in Engineering Mathematics since August 2019. The new undergraduate program provides the nexus of Florida Polytechnic University - wide activities in engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology and anticipates close collaborations between applied mathematics faculty and faculty members in other engineering and science departments.

This position is part of a strategic expansion of the department that will add approximately four faculty to the current eight full time faculty members within the department. As a part of this faculty expansion, the department will be emphasizing and improving its current teaching mission and also putting in place a research presence for the department. Relatively near-term plans include a Master’s degree program for the department. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to develop a highly successful teaching and research program, participate in extramural funding efforts, publish the results of their research studies in leading scientific journals of their discipline, supervise undergraduate students, and to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate level courses. In addition, the candidates are expected to assist in the broader education mission of the department. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION: • Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related field with emphasis in the specializations listed above or related field/ areas. DESIRED / PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Teaching and/or relevant research/industry experience • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and interdisciplinary funded applied research. • Experience in curriculum delivery and development • Experience with students’ academic mentoring • Experience in program assessment and execution of a continuous improvement plan. • Active participation in professional activities and organizations. • Prior professional US experience with progressive responsibility. • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse campus community.
