The Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Professor Peter Varjú at the interface of Number Theory, Ergodic Theory and Combinatorics. The post is available for 2 years from 1 September 2021 (or by negotiation). Appointments will be made at an appropriate point on the University's Research Associate scale.

Applicants should have, or be about to complete, a PhD in a relevant field, a strong research track record, and may have previous postdoc experience. Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. Candidates will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required. They must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. The post holder may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.
