POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at UC Santa Barbara is inviting qualified candidates to apply for Teaching Fellows in Data Science positions for the 2021-22 academic year, with a start date of July 1, 2021. The positions come with the possibility of 2 years renewal for a potential total of up to three years.

 

This search is linked to the campus Data Science Initiative (https://datascience.ucsb.edu) and we seek candidates who will teach and contribute to curricular development of our data science offerings, as well as research with cognate PSTAT research groups. UCSB has a robust and growing Data Science community, including an NSF Data Science Corps grant and multiple related undergraduate degree pathways. The appointment would be made at the Visiting Assistant Professor level and carry a teaching load of 3 quarter-length courses/year, focusing on upper-division courses in data science, including but not limited to statistical learning, big data analytics, data mining, and data science concepts.

 

Applicants must have completed all requirements for a PhD (or equivalent) except the dissertation, in Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline, at the time of application and should have completed their PhD (or equivalent) by the time of appointment. Successful applicants will demonstrate or show strong promise for undergraduate teaching, collaborative research and synergies with faculty and graduate students in Statistics & Applied Probability.
