Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Instructor of Data Science/ Data Analytics, Jupiter, FL.

 

Instructor (12 months): Data Science/Data Analytics

 

The Wilkes Honors College (WHC) of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Instructor position in Data Science/Data Analytics. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Data Analytics and other concentrations, advise students, and supervise honors theses and undergraduate research. They will also coordinate enrichment programs and experiential research labs in data science/analytics in partnership with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience (MPFI) and provide service to the college and university. 

 

The Wilkes Honors College (WHC) is located on the Jupiter campus of FAU. The campus is an international hub for scientific research and is host to MPFI, Scripps Research Institute Florida, and FAU’s own Brain Institute. The four-year curriculum of the WHC is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and interdisciplinary programs. Currently, the WHC is in a period of rapid growth, with just over 500 honors students and 43 full-time honors faculty members.  FAU is among the most ethnically diverse universities in the United States, and the WHC has a diverse student body, faculty and staff.  We value diversity and are committed to advancing equity and inclusion.

 

The expected teaching load is seven courses per year (three courses in the Fall and Spring terms, plus one in the summer), with the possibility for a reduced load contingent on the number of honors theses supervised and co-supervised. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the development of the curriculum in data science/data analytics in the WHC and to work with faculty from across the liberal arts and sciences. 

 

The committee is especially interested in applicants who possess broad and deep teaching interests, the ability to contribute specialized as well as core courses to our talented and motivated students, the potential for collaboration in interdisciplinary teaching, experience in advising and mentoring undergraduate students, and a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity.

 

The anticipated starting date for the position is July 1, 2021; This is a non-tenure track faculty rank with a career ladder.  Salary shall be commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualification: 

Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Data Science, Data Analytics or in a related field that uses Data Science or Data Analytics and, experience teaching in a higher education/university setting, and advanced training in programming and/or statistics by time of appointment required.
