The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maine invites applications for two fixed-length appointments as Lecturer. These academic year positions are for two years and are non-renewable. Anticipated start date is August 30, 2021. Preference will be given to candidates who can support our teaching in statistics, especially at introductory level. Some preference may also be given to candidates with other academic activities and achievements that enhance the department’s mission.

We are especially interested in applicants who can contribute to the University of Maine’s commitment to an inclusive and diverse student body that includes first-generation and low-income students and those from groups that are under-represented in mathematics, such as women and minorities.

A graduate degree (master’s or higher) in Statistics or Mathematics or an equivalent degree is required by date of hire. Demonstrated effective teaching of statistics and effective written and oral communication skills are also required. Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching, especially but not exclusively of statistics. This normally totals three classes per semester, and may include online delivery and coordination of student assistants. Collaborative work with other faculty and coordinators of multi-section classes is expected, as is service to the department, college and university.

The department offers BA, BS, and MA degrees in mathematics. In addition, our faculty provide mathematics and statistics instruction to the broader university community, are engaged in various outreach activities in our region and state, and are highly active in research.
