The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.

The role
Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the Open University to work with Dr Reem Yassawi (School of Mathematics and Statistics) on the EPSRC-funded New Horizons project Computing algebraic invariants of symbolic dynamical systems

https://gow.epsrc.ukri.org/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/V007459/1 ;

This exciting project aims to further study algebraic invariants such as the automorphism group and the Ellis semigroup of a topological dynamical system, with an emphasis on both the theoretical and computational aspects of these objects.

Candidates will have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant area, which includes topological or measurable dynamics, or combinatorics on words. Ideally the candidate will have experience of undertaking computational research.

The post is funded for 36 months and is available from 1 June 2021. The successful candidate will be based in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the Open University campus in Milton Keynes (possibly following an initial period of working from home). They will form part of the research group on symbolic dynamics and aperiodic order.
