Job Title: Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Classification: Full-time, one-year, benefits eligible faculty position, with the possibility of tenure-track appointment

Reports To: STEM Division Head

Job Summary/Objective: Sweet Briar College invites applications for a full-time, one-year position of Assistant Professor of Mathematics, with the possibility of a tenure-track appointment for an exceptional candidate. The successful candidate will be an engaged scholar-teacher and have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. They will be expected to teach both foundational theoretical and applied undergraduate courses to support our mathematics major as well as our other STEM majors. Examples of courses include the Calculus sequence, Applied Statistics, Probability, and Linear Algebra. Experience teaching Statistics at the undergraduate level is desirable.

The College’s academic calendar, with immersive three-week terms bookending traditional 12-week terms, creates an opportunity for innovative courses to take advantage of close student faculty interactions and collaboration across disciplines. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make contributions to our women’s leadership core curriculum and engage in research with undergraduates. Institutional support for research is available and includes internal faculty grants and an honors summer research program.

Required Qualifications: • A Ph.D. in a mathematical discipline; • Demonstrated excellence in teaching; • Demonstrated interest in working across disciplines and engaging in collaborative scholarship, teaching, and service; and • Excellent communication skills.
